Try putting some nail polish on the spot of the bite. This will cut off the air supply to the chigger and cause it to die. I had trouble with chiggers some years back and this worked very well. You can also buy some type of medication (I think it is similar to nail polish) that is made specifically for chiggers. It may take a few days before the problem goes away.
