We are investigating the possibility of buying a commercial database to supplement or replace our current in-house database. Therefore, we would like to find out what other companies' experiences are in developing or purchasing databases for applications similar to ours. Among the questions we have are: - how does it perform on large maps (on the order of 10,000 to 100,000 objects)? This includes speed and memory usage. - does it support concurrent updating and access? - how easy is it to implement spatial relationships? - how expensive is it? [can't forget that one :-)] We are particularly interested in the relative merits of relational versus object-oriented databases. Please respond via e-mail - results will be posted to the net if there is sufficient response. Thank you.
