Great. What is this message doing on news ? If you want to inform people
 who have accounts on GENIE, CompUserve or whatever, wouldn't it be much
 more logical to spread the word amongst those people ?

Sounds to me more like an advertisement a la:
 'Hey you people, join Ca$hboard for the latest Commodore software.
  Only on Ca$hboard. Join us. Now.'
