Yeah?  I got a free intro pak with my Hayes Smartmodem..
There was also a coupon in the Turbo C package...
Maybe you got screwed?
I think it's pretty common to get a 'coupon book' with a new modem.  With 
discounts for CIS, GEnie, DOW Jones, etc...
