I am at a Computer Theme program here at NC State and we are working on such a Beast for UNIX. What we plan to do is write a multi-windowing interface for the Apple IIGS, IBM, Mac, Amiga, and Atari ST that will use a standard Packet switched interface to a UNIX based system. It will have the concepts of a striped down X windows: allowing multiple sessions on different computers and transparent file transfers.
