The problem must stem from using X11R2 - texx2.8 compiled and ran on
Sun-3, Sun-4, DEC VAX, PMAX, PC/RT, Encore, Sequent, Iris 4D and a
couple of other installations.

Try locating a correct X11R3 installation, or clarify what the problem is.

The most recent version is something like texx2.9, available from
a.cs.uiuc.edu:pub/TeX.

The next version will be designed with X11R4 in mind (I hope) and will
hopefully be a littler easier to install (ha).
