Thanks to all that responded (so quickly, too!).
Apparently this is one of the more commonly seen problems;
the culprit is most likely the HM6116LP-4 2Kx8 SRA< located at
U417.  Replacement costs were cited at between <$2 and $10--one
person referred to it as a "common garden-variety" and another
wondered if they were still made!
