As an example, acording to our NUTSHELL books there are >supposed to be six vr-xx fonts available ...." I believe Mark was confused by the term "Standard" in the title of Appendix C. "Common Fonts" would be a better title. Standards are set by the MIT Consortium not the NUTSHELL handbooks. The STANDARDS document in the top layer of the MIT Release 3 tape contains the following statement: "None of the fonts provided in fonts/bdf/ are Consortium standards; vendors are free to ship whatever fonts they desire. The font naming scheme used for the Adobe, Bitstream, and Digital fonts is under review by the Consortium as a standard. This scheme is described in doc/fontsnames/fnames.txt." In addition, Appendix C of Volume 3 of the O'Reilly pubs, the "X Window System User's Guide", states the following: "This appendix should tell you everyting you need to know about the fonts in the X distribution. Not every font may be supported by particular server vendors, and some vendors may supplement the set. ..." It is true that some of the fonts listed in Appendix C are not on the RT. It is also true that the RT contains 14 fonts created especially for it. Jeanne Smith IBM Austin
