Re the acronym - the office which originally purchased this machine was named Simulation and Teleprocessing Branch, and the machine is a DECSYSTEM-20. Hostname limits at the time was eight characters. Thus, as Formula Translation became FORTRAN, the machine was named SIMTEL20, a contraction. --Keith
