I am reposting it for those who may have missed it at that time. If you have already responded there is no need to respond again. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ The up-comming OOPSLA '89 conference has made provisions for so-called "birds-of-a-feather" sessions. These are informal gatherings requiring no pre-registration or submissions. They typically are intended so that relatively small groups of people with similar interests can get together for discussion on an informal basis. OOPSLA will provide meeting rooms on Monday through Friday evenings for the sessions. The rooms may be booked at the Information desk on a first-come-first-serve basis. The point of all of this is that I think that it might be interesting to have a net.session so that we can meet some of the folks with whom we have been conversing over the net ( leave your flame throwers at the door, please :-) ). If there is sufficient interest in such a get-together I'll be more than happy to make the necessary arrangements, since I'll be arriving early. What constitutes "sufficient interest" ? Well, lets let the people on the net decide that. If you are going to OOPSLA and are interested in such a session, send me e-mail ( or US mail ) with the following information: 1) How many attendees do you think constitutes "sufficient interest". 2) What evening is best (the banquet is Thursday, so that is probably not a good night). 3) Suggested topics (e.g. OODBMSs and C++ books have been "hot" topics in recent days). Since this is an informal session, this is an informal vote. The number of attendees is just to get a "feel" for how many will show up ( so we dont get too small or too big a room). The suggested topics is just that; a suggestion, there is no formal agenda. The best evening is more democratic. I'll make the reservation for the evening with the most votes, assuming that that is available from the conference organizers. Please try to have your responses to my by Friday, Sept. 22 and I'll post a summary on Monday, Sept. 25. ------------------- Walter Peterson Calma - A Division of Prime Computer, Inc. 9805 Scranton Road San Diego, CA 92121 wlp@calmasd.Prime.COM -- Walt Peterson.
