Take a look at Lantastic from Artisoft.  It's a great little hardware/
software package that I think will meet your needs, for about $100 per
node.

They offer their "propriatary" network or Ethernet/Cheapernet
for extra money.  The propriatary runs at a respectable speed (~ 1 MB)
