Lines: 8 EIA/TIA is in the process of standardizing the 9-pin D-shell connector for use with RS-232 circuits. It is standarization effort PN-2231 (TR-30.2/89-04019R1). I do not have a copy of the proposed draft, but it appears to be similar or the same as is commonly found on IBM-PCs. Incidentally, pin 7 is defined as both RTS (circuit 105) or Ready for Receiving (circuit 133); the latter supports the "RTS"/CTS flow control handshake found on todays modems.
