This is pretty much the case for me too.  I have 2 hops for a smartmailer
system.  Have you found a better uucico to use other than the one that
UFGATE is distribited with?  I have found the distribution uucico "weak"
due to the fact of examples use undocumented parameters, and the debug
levels are all or nothing.  This seems to make my new connects difficult
to establish.
