My understanding is that a Mach port (first cut) is done. A number of people have seen it at CMU and at Usenix (in the Mt Xinu booth). The agreement between CMU and Mt Xinu is that CMU will continue to do Mach releases to sites that won't bother CMU once they are given a tape, i.e. people who know what they are doing and can handle beta software. This will be done so quick changes can get out the door to researchers. Since the Mach sources are in one large source tree it should be possible to biuld Mach for the MacII from one of the CMU tapes (they might even do a release specificly for the MacII, who knows.) Xt Xinu is contracted by DOD to handle a "production" release on Mach. The cost will not be great since it is funded by DOD. I understand that the first release should be 1st Q 1990. I believe all the details for the MacII release have been taken care of, for awhile the was some question as to what Apple was going to do since some of the drivers for the MacII came from them, but I think that is all cleared up now. -- Mark A.
