You may be interested in some recent work from ECMA called: "Document
Printing Application". It will shortly be available as an ECMA
Standard, it is being submitted to ISO (JTC1/SC18) for consideration.
The latest version I have is an ECMA document numbered
ECMA/TC32-TG5/89/12.

I understand that the people doing the printing service for Athena
took this ECMA work into account.
