The 3 MIPS Sun 3/80 monochrome without disk is much less than that: $5K-$5.5K. My guess is that the external tape box is at least a few grand, and maybe Sun was offering you the 24-bit color model, or the Sun 3/80GX model (super-fast accelerated 8-bit color graphics).
