  My guess is that the Abort, Retry, Ignore message is in direct response to
  a file I/O operation that a program performed.  The "I" would cause that
  I/O to terminate with a good status.  Then next time the program did
  another I/O, you would get the Abort, Retry, Ignore, again.  Therefore,
  you would have to press  "I" repeatedly until the program finished all
  its I/Os.
