Subject: Problems with a Sun 1/2 in tape drive

   We have a Sun 4/260 that has a 1600 bpi tape drive, running
 SunOs 4.0. If we try to access /dev/rmt0 the tape drive works as expected
 However /dev/nrmt0 does not. If we do a mt -f /dev/nrmt0 fsf 1 it
 complains ''unknown device'' but an ls -l /dev/nrmt0 says its there.

   We are new to the Sun machines and this particular tape drive has had
   a lot of problems.  This could be anything from a hardware problem
   to a RTFM problem.  Any ideas as a starting point.

   I'm posting this for a Survey Engineer who is trying to admin the
   system, respond to me and I'll play relay...
