People have been re- minded that it is not very nice to work on a heavily loaded machine especially when most of the load is caused by anonymous ftp. That is why everyone should do their anonymous ftp at a time when people are not using their machines. In Lappeenranta (Finland) I have advised people to ftp from America between 5am and 3pm local (finnish) time. The time zone in Finland is EET-2EETDST, so the given period would be between 3am and 1pm UTC. In America that would be between 7pm and 5am in California and between 10pm and 8am in New York, would it not? Nowadays we are experiencing quite a load caused by anonymous ftp coming from the U.S.A. mainly. I would hope that people using ftp to lut.fi would take a note from this and calculating the appropriate time when to connect. I don't know for sure, but I guess other sites here in Finland would appreciate that too. The best times to connect to lut.fi are between 7pm and 7am local finnish time (EET-2EETDST). In UTC that is between 5pm and 5am. In California it is bet- ween 9am and 9pm. Finally in New York it is between 12am and 12pm. As you know, here at lut.fi we have a collection of GIF-pictures, some sources modified to work on HP-UX (current version is 3.10) and a couple of pc source codes. Everyone is welcome to get these by anonymous ftp during the periods mentioned above. The IP address is 128.214.25.8, but lut.fi and kannel.lut.fi should be recognized by systems using DNS. Thanks for reading my message. Regards Kim -- ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ( Kimmo Suominen !
