How about reading block 0 with a smartport call, loading up the registers and jumping to $00/$0801? I think X must be set to #%11010000 for /RAM5 but I can't remember off hand. This will not stuff up your control panel settings ... General code can be written to support any device with a ROM block driver (ie: this sort of approach is more complex for a 5.25" - no driver in ROM). It also will not do a reset - so much of memory and settings are not changed (This may or may not be what you want!).
