Does anyone know of a way compile an .idx-file (produced by LaTeX \index-macro)
to a format suitable for the theindex-environment, using TeX or LaTeX macros?

At this moment we are using a compiler written in C.
But this means we must run `idx2ind' between two runs of LaTeX instead of
letting LaTeX do the thing for us at the first run.
