In particular, code to expand structures like "if" and "while", a set of pre-defined abbrevs, and a enhancements to the comment mode that permit customization of the string used to begin a continued comment would be of interest. (These, among others, are features of the Unipress emacs "electric-c" mode upon which I grew to rely.) I don't doubt this is an old and well-traveled question, but I am new to GNU emacs.
