Just to set the record straight, I know all about the "Frequently asked Questions" document and the man page for rn (I have read both in their entirety) and I checked them before posting here. I found out all about the "tr" command, but that is not what I was looking for. My question was intended to probe for a simple command (similar to "s" and/or "w" which would do what a long "tr" command would do without rotating the header as well. I thought that perhaps some such animule existed but was not documented. Anyone familiar with unix type documentation knows that this is not uncommon. Sorry if this was not clear.
