After recently bringing my news software up to the latest patch
level (18) I noticed a dramatic loss of speed.  The system profiling
report says that rnews is doing about ~300 system calls per second,
mostly reads.  I suspect that some files are being read in non-buffered
mode, a system call for every character.  I've stared at inews.c and
ifuncs.c but haven't found any obvious problems.  Has anyone else
encountered and/or fixed this problem?
