Furness, who recently left the USAF Medical Laboratory at Wright- Patman AFB, is now director of the new Human Interface Technology Laboratory at the University of Washington. Its charge is to develop civilian applications for virtual-interface technology in the areas of human-complex systems interactions, entertainment and creativity, education (including "learning prostheses" for the learning disabled), and biomedical research and health practice.
