This is a more complete posting to my earlier message about hd problems on 
the Toshiba T1200HB laptop.

df if=/dev/hd0 of=/dev/null count=1000

gives a message saying something like 0 blocks transferred, and the hard disk
never spun.

I am told that the compaq patch should fix my problems, but the patch is for
AT class machines.  Also, the patch appears to fix problems in status reporting
which is not the problem I am having.

I now have tech specs from Toshiba including information about the hard disk
drivers.  I'm interested in writing, or modifying a disk driver for the toshiba
hard drive.  Can someone give me some pointers on where to begin?
