Lines: 22 Surprise! I ran into Knuth last evening at the 5th annual Hacker's Conference. Ruff informs me that he sent mail to Knuth that this duiscussion was talking place. I might also be able to relay short messages or comments if mailed to me in the next 24 hours. Unfortunately, Ames decided to drop its subscription to S/W P&E, so I've still not seen the paper. I think that Knuth has a something of an aura around him. I especially like the CACM Programming Pearls Column where Knuth and I believe Mike Lesk at Bell Labs [Guest Oysters] tackled the same problem in two different ways (Pascal-style and Unix style). It made for an interesting side by side comparison. Another gross generalization from --eugene miya, NASA Ames Research Center, eugene@aurora.arc.nasa.gov resident cynic at the Rock of Ages Home for Retired Hackers: "You trust the `reply' command with all those different mailers out there?" "If my mail does not reach you, please accept my apology." {ncar, decwrl, hplabs, uunet}!ames!eugene Support the Free Software Foundation (FSF)
