The Hardframe, like the Commodore controllers, is DMA driven, and so you can get over 1 megabyte/second, though the filesystem (FFS), with the right hard drive (CDCs, not Quantums). While the PC-AT bus is in theory capable of 4 MB/s transfers, it's not clear that [A] the Quantum goes anywhere near that speed, or [B] what the GVP interface can actually achieve; it could be their interface to the AT drive is less than optimal.
