I recently bought a 128K RAM module for my printer and want to use the downloadable softfonts. HP has got download software but that's only aviable for MS DOS. I want to write my own softfont utilities on my ATARI. (e.g. Font editor, and download package.) Neither the Deskjet user manual nor the documentation of the 128 K RAM module gives any information on the format of the fonts. I assume there is very much similarity with the LASERJET Font format, so with a little conversion the laser jet fonts should be usable with the deskjet. Another question concerning Deskjet fonts : HPJOURNAL states that the fonts in the deskjet printer are defined on a grid of 1/600". Is this also appliciable on SOFT fonts. If so, it has to be possible to write software that lets the printer print with a resolution of 1/600", using softfonts ! Hope anyone could provide this information. Rudi van Drunen.
