At irregular intervals, Informix's "isql" will suddenly expand to fill all of virtual memory -- 16MB -- and start dumping core. This brings the machine to a literal standstill for many minutes and it is driving us crazy. My main question is "can we terminate a core dump?". I know that kill -9 won't work, and I can do "mkdir core" first to prevent a core dump. I just want to find a way to stop one of these things in progress. I also wish I could limit coredumpsize as in BSD :-(. Informix does nothing more than extend sympathies, but that doesn't surprise us anymore; their support for the shared-memory implementation has been miserable across the board. This is a bummer, because their expensive tech support is usually quite a bit above average.
