RAINBOW USERS UNITED!!! PIBTERM 3.2.5 (RAINBOW VE Articles posted to either INFO-DEC-MICRO or comp.sys.dec.micro are currently gatewayed automatically to the Rainbow Echo on Fidonet; thus, you do need not to take any special action to respond to articles in these digests. Please send reports of problems or suggestions for improvement of this digest to GTHEALL@PENNDRLS.UPENN.EDU (ARPA Internet). ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: 10-19-89 (09:48) Subject: RE: RAINBOW USERS UNITE!! DS> DS>Hope that help clarify things... Thanks for the clarification. Bill and I are planning to make some tests of the CIS and INFO-DEC-MICRO/comp.sys.dec.micro linkup in the coming week. There's still a lot of details for us to work out, but I'm glad to hear we can proceed with the Rainbow Echomail gateway as well! A minor quibble - by "no extra costs" do you mean to exclude any bi-directional links with Fido? I expect sysops are indeed incurring some extra costs because of additional message volume caused by my posting of messages from INFO-DEC-MICRO/comp.sys.dec.micro. Not that the increase has been that much, but it is passed along to all others that receive this echo. Any suggestions for minimizing the problem wrt DS>GT>messages gatewayed to this echo? DS>GT> DS> DS>A program would be the smartest idea, but I'm not sure exact;y who DS>would write it, or how it would work. I log onto CIS about twice a year... I've already developed a quick & dirty AWK program to digest (burb! :-) the messages from this echo. It does certainly simplify things. Either Bill or I will do a similar thing for IDM/csdm messages sent to CIS. As for messages posted here, is there a size limit? Do people generally distinguish between my messages (like now) and messages I'm simply gatewaying from IDM/csdm? I've been using a separate tagline for the latter (Mail from INFO-DEC-MICRO/comp.sys.dec.micro) plus embedding some of the original message headers yet have some people when replying to these gatewayed messages say "Well, George, in response to your query, ..." Does anyone have the sources to Pibterm(most DM>recent version for the 'bow) available for File Request? I've never used PIBTerm, but I see it's available from a file archive on SIMTEL20. The latest version appears to be v4.1 (release date of March '88). If you don't get a response from others, I'll retrieve the source for this (probably IBM specific) version for you. Here's what I see: PIBT41S1.ARC 210K BIN 03/25/88 Pibterm 4.1 source (T Pascal) 1 of 4 PIBT41S2.ARC 228K BIN 03/25/88 Pibterm 4.1 source (T Pascal) 2 of 4 PIBT41S3.ARC 200K BIN 03/25/88 Pibterm 4.1 source (T Pascal) 3 of 4 PIBT41S4.ARC 227K BIN 03/25/88 Pibterm 4.1 source (T Pascal) 4 of 4 Perhaps you can hack this for the Rainbow. I'll also get the docs to see whether this stuff includes support for the Rainbow. George --- ~ EZ-Reader 1.21 ~ Fahrrad fahren, Energie sparen ------------------------------
