Just thought I'd pass that on, I don't think there's any reason to propogate this misconception. Convertfs works fine. You need to read the HP-UX reference entry before using it, though. I've been using long file names for a long time now and the only problem is when I find myself on a short filename system occasionally. The one risk I know of is the transfer of multiple longname files to a shortname filesystem when the first 14 characters of the filenames are identical, causing overwriting of all but the last file, this is preventable with due caution, and argues for converting a whole system and site at once.
