Message-ID: <15503@netnews.upenn.edu> Date: 13 Oct 89 20:49:25 GMT Sender: news@netnews.upenn.edu Reply-To: catone@dsl.cis.upenn.edu (Tony Catone) Organization: University of Pennsylvania Lines: 15 Hi. I'm about to start work on a large database system under DOS. A relational DBMS would best suit our needs, so I'm interested in information on the usual syspects under DOS: ORACLE, INFORMIX, INGRES. What are the hardware requirements? Do they run acceptably fast on 286/386 machines? Or should I stick with a psuedo SQL micro specific database like KMAN/2? We need nice screen handling abilities, data interchange facilities since we're importing a lot of data from a mainframe FOCUS application, and as full an SQL as we can get, with QBF nice but not required. We really want the flexibility of a relational system, so please no pitches for PC/FOCUS. Please respond via email or post; we're going to decide this issue within the next week, so I'll post a summary of responses then. Thanks much. - Tony catone@dsl.cis.upenn.edu catone@wharton.upenn.edu
