Is there anyway for a program to identify what machine it is running
on? I have found ways to get things such as the BIOS date, but this
wouldn't be unique. I am hoping there is a way to get something like a
serial number off of maybe the CPU. 

On a related note, are there any packages (commercial, shareware, or
PD) that can be used for keeping track of what programs are on a
machine. I am looking for a program that tells you if there are any
program (COM or EXE) files on a disk that were not on it the last time
the program was run.
