I just bought one from On_Line Store $82 ($69+ shipping and handling, etc).
I have not had any trouble yet, (I only use it to log in mainfram on campus
though).  It is  a generic modem w/o specifying manufacturor.  But if you
mention Byte magazine Sept. issue you can get 5 years warranty (Otherwise
