Keywords: Map Cdev Message-ID: <581@nikhefk.UUCP> Date: 22 Sep 89 13:25:46 GMT Organization: National Institute for Nuclear Physics; Netherlands Lines: 33 Bug in Map Cdev --------------- The Map Cdev as delivered in System 6.0.x has a bug in the distance calculation. To see the bug do the following: Find Amsterdam and Set as the default location. You will see that the distance form Amsterdam to Amsterdam is 0 Miles. Now click on the word 'mi' and see the word change to 'km'. The distance is now 10 kilometers... Click on the word 'km' and see it change to 'dg'. The great circle distance in degrees is now 360.[I think it ought to be 0 (zero) degrees, but 360 will do me fine] This 'click on mi/km/dg words' is not documented in the Macintosh Utilities User's Guide, but I think the bug is worth reporting. This bug is not in every location in the Map database, some locations will give you zero miles and zero kilometers. A real fun location to try out is Denver: it is 10 miles/10 kilometers from Denver... The same holds for Salt Lake City. Another strange phenomena is in the degrees display: Cities on the northern half of the globe are 360 degrees from themselves, cities in the southern hemisphere are 180 degrees from themselves.
