(emphasis added) A faculty member here wants to use his ImageWriter I with a stepdown transformer in West Germany. He's read this article and is concerned about possible problems he might have with character spacing. However ... I've yet to see a report--either in _MacWorld_'s two articles on 'travelling outside the United States with your Mac' or the variety of postings on international use of Macintoshes appearing in this newsgroup--which describes a character spacing problem with the use of the Imagewriter I with a 50 Hz power source. The Apple Tech Info Library article, "Apple Products Overseas," also does not mention this problem. If you have used an Imagewriter I printer on a 50 Hz source with a stepdown transformer, have you actually encountered character spacing problems with the Imagewriter I on a 50 Hz source? If you did, how severe were they? Did they affect draft mode (internal character set) printing, better/faster printing, or both? Please send email; I will summarize to the net only if there is interest. Many thanks!
