Message-ID: <2541@dogie.macc.wisc.edu> Date: 13 Oct 89 19:37:42 GMT Distribution: comp Organization: UWisconsin-Madison Academic Comp Center Lines: 19 We are thinking about buying some machines. One idea that I had was to use a DecStation 3100 as disk server and buy diskless VaxStation 3100. I glanced through the Diskless Management Guide in Ultrix and could not find any reference that it couldn't be done. I know that all satellite workstations could have their own root file system and thus their own kernels, but what about the /usr file system? There was some reference to a shared usr file system but it wasn't clear what it was. Anybody have any thoughts or ideas on this? If this is possible then what about a Diskless NeXT booting off of a DecStation 3100? thanks mark -- edwards@vms.macc.wisc.edu UW-Madison, 1210 West Dayton St., Madison WI 53706
