(asked he already knowing the hopelessness of this plea!) Because BITNET is a network based on the IBM RSCS protocol. Everything on BITNET (at least text stuff) is done in EBCDIC. Somewhere there is a machine with a different ASCII<->EBCDIC tranlation table than the rest of the world. I strongly suspect that the problem is at the site it was reported from rather than a general BITNET problem. Note that the articles made it to the LISTSERV machine OK via BITNET. -- USmail: Bob Sloane, University of Kansas Computer Center, Lawrence, KS, 66045 E-mail: sloane@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu, sloane@ukanvax.bitnet, AT&T: (913)864-0444 "The scientific theory I like best is that the rings of Saturn are composed entirely of lost airline luggage." -- Mark Russell
