Bear in mind, though, the nearly mind-numbing delays between submittal of
a paper and its actual publication, sometimes as much as a year and a half.
So, it's certainly feasible that the state of the art changed within that time
period.

It would be interesting to see the follow-up paper on how the fab process was
improved for 64K RAMs.
