I'm shopping for a place to do a PhD in volume visualization, and need some
leads to good places to study.

My major interest is Biomedical (BOTH Bio and Medical) although I could be
tempted by other applications.  Who is doing work in these areas?  I need
someplace where I can earn a TECHNICAL degree, since I'm a Computer Engineer,
not an M.D. 	I suspect my lifetime is finite.

The best would be a computer science school with close
ties to a medical school (you can see why this could be a problem).

Specific research interests:
	Slice->volume interpolation
	Interactive (e.g. FAST) volume rendering
	Opacity/Colour mapping (e.g. Tissue classification)
	Integration of rendering techniques 
		solid voxels, ray traced voxels, polygonal surfaces, etc.
	Transparency/Lighting models for semitransparent volumes
	Cognitive models for user interpretation of semitransparent data
		(with feedback into the previous model)
	User Interfaces for interacting with a volume renderer...
		data exploration
	Computer Architectures for volume rendering
		Parallelism, memory architectures, etc.

I'm currently doing a Computer Science Master's in this area.
I graduated at the top of my class in Computer Engineering at Waterloo, &
have worked in industry (ISG Technologies) on a 3D medical rendering 
workstation.
