The first person to propose anything concrete was (I think) Bill Griswold; I hope he (and the others working in this area) will comment on the status of their projects and whether they are publicly available. My own hack, an Icon-Derived Object Language (Idol), will be described in the next Icon newsletter. It is a preprocessor rather than a modification to icont or a variant translator. It provides the encapsulation and auto-setup procedures you requested within the framework of classes and multiple inheritance. It looks more like Icon than C++.
