Or to use some kind of RFC987 algorithm for creating a short-hand notation for O/R-names? If the latter, then the general, table- free variant of RFC987 is about the same as the RARE format, and the shorter table-dependent version of RFC987 only works if all interpreters have the same, large, tables, which is a large problem.
