For example the symbolics uses them to decide between the different types of interactive connections (telnet, supdup, etc.) and different types of file connections. For example if the Symbolics can't find SMTP in the WKS records it will refuse to even attemt to deliver mail to the target system. The Symbolics also uses the HINFO records to figure out if the remote file system is one of the ones supported by the generic file system for FTP operations. I suggest you really want to put the WKS and HINFO records into your domain database. G++ -------
