Subject: Nethack Ball And Chain Bug

I have noticed an error in Nethack (patch version 4),
implemented on a Microvax 3. When I was cursed with
a ball and chain, I chose to carry the ball.
After climbing stairs, I found that I left behind
the O symbol for the ball, which should not have happened as I carried it.
When I checked my inventory,
I still had the ball.  Doing a  ':', I saw

stairway down
ball (chained to you)

When I tried to pick up the ball, the game did a panic quit.
Perhaps this bug could be rectified in the next patch of nethack.
