There is a simple solution. Commodore should offer a 1-year (or longer) "Extended Warranty Package" for only a little more than they expect it to cost them ON THE AVERAGE. They should then honor it regardless of how much it costs them on a particular machine, because it costs them nothing on so many other machines. Then any customer who feels the need for a longer warranty may have one, and any who doesn't has absolutely no basis for complaint if their machine breaks down after the end of the standard warranty period. I would GUESS that the cost for a 1-year extended warranty for an A500 or A2000 would be about $80; about $20 for an external drive, also about $20 for a CBM-supplied hard disk; near zero for memory expansions. 2-year versions would go for about 40% more than 1-year.
