Subject: Help needed for The Journey

I just started the game "The Journey" from Infocom, and I like it a lot,
but I'm already stuck!  If any of you have played this game, I would sure
like a hint.  I can't figure out how to get through the "maze of forks"
up the mountain to the wizard's castle.  Based on the "musings" I figure
it has something to do with the map, but I've tried everything I can think
of with the map, to no avail.
