Sigh.  "Kerning" was not the word I wanted.  Mr. Can't-Figure-Out-The-Right-
Word strikes again...

...in this case, I don't think the word exists.  The actual problem, if I
remember correctly, is that the ImageWriter driver doesn't look at the actual
size of characters under some conditions, and as a result positions characters
in "boxes" which are too big/small, with resulting bad spacing.

All you folks using blowtorches on my mailbox can stop now....
