This problem could occur if the modem cable you are using doesn't pass the
hardware flow control lines correctly between the modem and the serial 
port.  I have had my cube as a uucp site since Feb (0.8, 0.9, 1.0) and 
haven't had this problem yet.  The section on the cube hardware gives
pinouts for all the conenctors in the cube, and recommended cable wiring
for a serial cable destined to talk to a modem.
