We have currently a 380 MB ESDI disk used for system and user data. We want to add one of the available 760 MB drives. For price reasons we can't buy the "official" SGI product. Our plan is to get cage and cabling from SGI and the drive from a third party. Now I have got some questions on this topic: 1) Should we add the 760MB disk as a second EDSI disk, or should we add it on the SCSI bus build into the 4D? The disk will be used for user data for both the local processor and our NFS based network. 2) Available disk in the size we are thinking of are the CDC/Imprimis WREN-V700, WREN-VI770 and the Fujuitsu M2263 (and probably others). Has anybody (SGI specialist are highly welcome !!!) experience with this drives (ESDI and SCSI version) that he want to share with me? Does the 3.2 fx support any of this drives? How good is fx on "unknown" disk types? I would really like to hear any comments about our plan, EXCLUDED those stating that only SGI products are warranted to run on SGI processors. I have heard them before, I can see their point, but I cant afford to pay more than 100% more for (probably) the same product (here the original SGI cage is already counted).
